Cato Terblanche  

Cato is a qualified Social Worker and Play Therapist with more than 20 years’ experience working in several children and family teams while in London and Cape Town.

She has completed a Post Graduate Diploma in Play Therapy, accredited internationally by Leeds Beckett University, UK.

Thanks to her working experience in a hospital the past 9 years, she has developed a special interest in Play Therapy with sick and hospitalized children. She has witnessed many children struggle with life’s challenges and decided to focus on Play Therapy in order to give children a voice through their play. Being a firm believer in early intervention she uses the integrated holistic child-centered approach; the most recognised form of Play Therapy in the UK and USA.

Play Therapy Techniques

The play therapist uses different techniques according to the child’s wishes.

Some of these techniques include the following:

  • Puppets

  • Story Telling

  • Music, dance and movement

  • Drama

Play Therapy can help children who:

• Are sick or hospitalised• Have a sick parent or sibling

• Have experienced trauma

• Has suffered emotional, physical/sexual abuse.

• Is adopted or fostered

• Parents are separated/divorced 

• Have anxiety, stress, or phobias

• Have experienced a loss or bereavement

• Is withdrawn or continually unhappy

• Find it difficult to make friends

• Bully others or is bullied themselves
